El Castillo

This morning (Wed, Dec 18) we walked to the Museo El Castillo, and enjoyed the museum and grounds. The castle was built in 1930 in imitation of Loire Valley chateaux, and then was bought in 1943 and furnished and decorated by Don Diego Echavarria and his wife Benedikta Zur Nieden, who donated it to the city as a museum. We took photos of the beautiful gardens, but photography is not permitted inside the castle, where we had an excellent tour by a knowledgeable guide. The three scarlet macaws live in the hollow trunk of an old palm tree in the center of the front garden.
